Thomas Tuchel voiced his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not receive greater encouragement from the home fans during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday night.

Tuchel was happy to see his team showcase their winning momentum, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the game. However, he was unhappy with the atmosphere at the iconic venue.

“With limited sessions to get ready against a well-trained team and we did very well,” Tuchel remarked. “We could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the additional goals. The stadium was silent. There was no support from the crowd. We did everything to win.”

“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the squad warranted better encouragement today.”

“I support my words. There’s nothing more than being three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a bit more backing in moments where it gets difficult.”

“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to regain energy, but it is what it is and so be it.”

Selection Choices Justified by Display

Away from risking a fight with supporters, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by excluding Bellingham and Foden from his squad. However the choice was backed up by Rogers impressing again in the attacking midfield role and scoring his maiden goal for his country.

“He plays his game,” Tuchel said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his place.”

Bellamy Hopes for Lessons from Defeat

Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who face Belgium in a crucial qualifying match on Monday, learn from their poor first-half display.

“That’s the reason I wanted this friendly,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance fills me with inspiration.”

Injury Concern for Watkins

Watkins was substituted at half-time after clattering into a post and is a concern when England face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
